Guitar Lessons
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
One thing that makes my lessons a little different is that I travel to my students’ homes for in-person lessons. I find this is incredibly convenient for busy families and makes fitting music into your weekly schedule much easier.
My teaching style is also a little different from the traditional classical approach many of us experienced growing up. My first experience with music lessons involved a lot of complicated music theory, and honestly, it took the fun out of learning. I eventually taught myself by learning songs I loved, and that’s when playing guitar really clicked for me.
That’s the approach I take with my students today. Rather than overwhelming them with theory, I introduce it in simple, practical ways as it becomes relevant to what we’re already learning. My focus is on developing real-world musical skills—playing favourite songs, singing while playing, learning current hits, and building the confidence to play alongside other musicians. I also teach performance and songwriting for interested students.
For beginners, we start with simple chords and strumming patterns so they can begin playing songs they enjoy right away while building a strong musical foundation.
For all students, I recommend starting with 30-minute lessons and we can go from there if we find we need more time.
Lessons are held once per week on the same day and time. If something comes up, I’m happy to accommodate schedule changes whenever possible with at least 24 hours’ notice.
I teach during the school year, which I consider my regular season, although some students choose to continue through the summer as well. Summer lessons are often a great time to make progress since students aren’t coming straight from a full day of school.
There is a $120 registration fee for new students. However, registrations received before September 1 are exempt from this fee, as the extra lead time allows me to organize my teaching schedule and group lessons efficiently by neighbourhood.
I teach Monday through Thursday afternoons and evenings, as I’m typically performing on weekends. I always do my best to schedule lessons at a time that works well for each family, though availability becomes more limited as my schedule fills.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Thanks,
Matt
